So, currently college student, but I just found out (don't judge me, still learning) that the dual enrollment courses I took in high school have to be reported on applications to med school. I took these classes way back in sophomore year of high school and I decided today to check what my grades were just to be sure. As far as I knew, I got an A in the human anatomy and physiology class I took and withdrew from a calc class that was way out of my league.

Come to find out, I was right about the first one but stupid high school me never actually withdrew from the class and got an F, so naturally, being the neurotic pre-med I am, I'm freaking out. When my science GPA is calculated, will these classes from way back in high school be included? Will colleges be able to see that I took these classes way back in high school and not during college? And how poorly will this reflect on my application? I got an A in the other class, have a great high school GPA, and go to an Ivy where I'm doing well in all my classes, so will I be given some leeway with this?

tl;dr Stupid me forgot to withdraw from dual enrollment class 4 years ago in high school, got an F, how will this affect my chances?

The F will be averaged into your science and cumulative gap. Med schools will see it taken 6+ years ago, so I wouldn't fret too much about it.

What you need to do is contact the school and see if you could get a retroactive withdrawal. If not, don't worry.

Well, this sucks but I guess it's better to know now than when I'm applying in a few years. I just emailed the dual enrollment coordinator about getting a retroactive withdrawal. Is there a section on the application to explain grade hiccups like this where I could say I forgot to withdraw, and didn't just completely bomb calculus?

You will have a chance to explain yourself. As long as your GPA is good enough, you have nothing to worry about. (That is unless your application is auto screened for low GPA and no one gets to your explanation).

Is there a list somewhere of schools that are known to autoscreen GPA's?

Jk, apparently it's on MSAR. I'll figure it out when the time comes. Thanks for the help!

Thanks for the tart reply, I just wasn't sure if it would affect my undergraduate GPA since I had taken it in high school but now I realize it will.

I bet you could get a retroactive withdrawal, as Goro said. I've seen it done plenty of times with these kinds of classes, but every school is different. It is definitely worth the effort to pursue since it could only help you or not change the situation.

Also, am I the only one who would have those nightmares where you realize you had forgotten to go to a class halfway through the semester?
