I'm PIC in a rural area with a small cluster of stores in my chain. One of my techs is leaving so I was making sure that the position was posted when I discovered what is clearly my job listed on one of the jobs sites. It was listed for Pharmacist In Charge at my chain in my town and I'm the only one. I have been PIC for about a year now and the listing posted in October and isn't on any other job site as far as I can tell.

I still have my job so I might chalk it up as a mistake except for a few things. My pharmacy supervisor hired around that time what seems to be too many grad interns for the available positions. He said he is expanding hours in the other stores but the math just doesn't make sense to me. I also heard bits and pieces of things that made me think that there will be a staff shake-up and it might involve my store. I heard that they were not happy with my partner but it wasn't his job listed so now I'm thinking that it could be me or perhaps both of us. I'm not sure what to think really.

Honestly hasn't been a strong point in my district. When I was hired as a new grad, I worked for months as an intern and the staff pharmacist who I replaced was never told in all that time that I was his replacement until I got my license and took his job. When I became PIC, the whole pharmacy knew for a month that the old PIC was out before my supervisor actually notified him and installed me. Communication, especially when people are getting bumped out, is lacking around here.

So what to do next? There could be a reasonable explanation that I don't know about or I could be out. I was thinking about asking my supervisor but my husband thinks that if they are planning on replacing me, it might force their hand early and not give me time to get a new job. I figure if I am out and I keep it quiet that I know, I will be replaced by one of these new grads so that is still a few months away because they need to graduate, get trained and get licensed.

So I'm not sure what to do. I could try to find another job and be done with this mess or I can try to get answers and hope they don't lie to me. Any advise would be appreciated.

Do you think they have a reason they would want to replace you other than too many new grads? Most supervisors would rather keep an experienced PIC at a store if everything is running smooth. Also, why are people getting "replaced" so much where you work? You may want to look for a new job just on that basis alone.

The metrics seem to be in decent shape with the exception of the customer service scores which are now hovering between poor and okay. I haven't reigned in my partner who keeps getting complaints by customers because he can be rude so maybe poor management skills? I do make more mistakes than I'd like which I always document.

I don't know, I'm maybe I'm being paranoid. Or not paranoid enough... It is concerning when you see your job posted on the internet.

sorry to hear that. being PIC u don't have union protection. maybe u should ask your supervisor for opinions. whether he believes ur doing a good job and continue what you're doing, or what u need to improve on, or if u should step down and become a staff? just asking him to test the water. his response should give confirmation whether the temperament is cold or warm. do not ask him directly why your job opening is posted.

It could just be that you're getting moved to a different store. I had a friend who was PIC, and they posted a job for his staff rph, and the staff rph was freaking out that they were getting canned. In reality, the PIC got moved to a different store and his staff rph became the new PIC.

In any case, always have your resume updated and have a plan B.

Posted in October? Sounds like you are the best man for the job for now, at least until new grads come in. And if it is just one site, they aren't trying very hard.

I have noticed that some sups/dms will post either totally random store just to get applicants for the district overall. OR they post most attractive store/central location and then when applicants come in, do bait and switch.

You should still be looking to move. It is not good for overall health to have these concerns hanging over you. The way previous PIC was replaced means that is the norm.

You should apply to the posting and see what happens

But in all seriousness I would say they they might be trying to just move you to a different store or it is just a mistake. The company I work for writes pharmacists up a few times before firing them. Have you even been written up?

I have never been written up. I doubt they could fire me but the pharmacist I originally replaced was made a floater. Normally that wouldn't be a big deal but the majority of stores in my district are hours away and require an overnight stay. I hear you can do quite well for yourself in that position because drive time often times ends up as overtime pay but I have a family and I have no desire to be out of town for days at a time.

Maybe all of this is nothing but it makes me realize I really don't trust the company I work for.

Ask your supervisor for feedback. I wouldn't want this concern hanging over me. I wouldn't go into like there is any sort of problem. Just touch base and tell him how things are going at your location (positive and negative) and ask if he has any feedback for you. You might be surprised at the answer.

But I work in hospital land and this strategy does work well with my supervisor but may not carryover to retail...

Ha ha. Is CVS the only company that treats people like this?

Yes.

CVS treats their employees like shi*. All the time RxSups are posting online jobs for positions that aren't even open. I don't know if it's to scare the employees, to actually replace the employees, or just to get more people to apply, but in the end, CVS treats its employees like shi*. That's so fu*king disrespectful.

I believe we work for the same company .. what a coincidence we both had a similar experience lately ! While there is no PIC posting for my district, I was looking at jobs internally the other day and there are several staff postings , however there are no staff openings at this time . I asked a friend who is a rx sup in a diff district and he said its just to lure in apps .

With regard to posting PIC, I would be willing to bet money that they are just trying to reel in suckers for the job , after all if someone bites for PIC you can be 100% sure the company has someone looking to step down somewhere in your area even if it's not the same town , maybe it's same district. I know I applied for a whole different city when I applied and at the time of the offer, I confirmed it was a different store (that I wanted) ,my dm at the time just said he just put in the city he thought would get the most apps.

Ymmv, but if you are doing decent, and you work for the company I think, I would not be paranoid in your position ... But I would definitely feel out the market for other jobs just in case.

Just going off of rumors and some heart to hearts with MGR and rx sup, if you are alive and not doing anything illegal, and your store is making money, it is a very big process involved (6-8 weeks minimum) for them to "can" or even move a PIC .. think about it this way , if they canned you and on boarded a new person, that would be at least a 5 figure loss to pay for the transition .. now assuming the new PIC is actually worth salt, it's STILL likely gonna take weeks to months to break even if they hit the ground running ..

I am making a lot of money for my district and operating within the law and under labor budget .. I am nowhere near being in compliance with company policies. And I have been called a PITA by at least one DM .. I have very little fear of being replaced because I have heard it from the mkt VP and my boss directly, as long as I am making money and not making waves, I am exceeding expectations. My staff on the other hand, some of whom exceed expectations on paper , are in danger from corporate because they are wasting too much time on compliance and clinical and not working fast enough .. strange isn't it ? It's not really that strange if you look at it from a corporate point of view.

CVS is very sloppy about this. Back in 2012, I'd see jobs posted in my district when the supervisor couldn't even give full time to the people he wanted to give full time to. He was literally trashing resumes as they were sent to him without looking at them. And he certainly wasn't looking to hire. Granted, the job situation is a tad bit better lately, but I wouldn't be worried. There are hundreds of pharmacist jobs listed on the internal listings that I doubt really exist.

I am making money with volume up 5% last year and another 10% so far this year. If the rumors are true, a PIC close to here is getting promoted so there will be an opening there. I guess this makes sense. But I realized I work for scoundrels so I'm thinking of seeing what is out there anyway. There has to a place that treats its employees better.

This. And it's been 6 months, I wouldn't worry about it.

This, bait and switch. Not CVS, but I applied at a chain once that listed a position open in a specific city, I applied and when they called me, I found out the position was really in a different city in the same district. I don't know if its purposeful bait and switch, or just laziness (just post the central position whether than where the actual position is), or maybe when they post the position in all honesty, but then internal shuffling happens, so the where the open position is changes....
If I were you, I'd keep my resume updated & my eyes open, but I wouldn't worry too much about a 6 month old listing, chances are it was just to lure in applicants to be placed elsewhere.
