I was told that many pre-pharm. students are getting a B.S. before going into pharmacy school. Also that admissions are much more likely to accept a student if they have it.
I don't plan on getting a B.S., and was just wondering if it is really that hard to get in without one?
If some examples (P CAT scores GPA etc..) could be provided, of individuals who got in (or didn't) without a B.S., I would greatly appreciate it.
Thank you

Go look at the schools' stats page. They usually state what percentage of incoming students had a degree before matriculation. Yes, you will be more competitive with it but, as of right now, it is still possible to get in without it. If I were you, I would get one anyway.

Hey-- I have a BS but most of the schools I have talked to say that they have about 55% of students with a BS and 45% without... so it does not seem like its that great of an advantage to have one

Many of the top tier schools have like 70-80 percent of their students come in with a degree. Look at cali's stats! LOL pretty much everyone has a degree going in. I think two of the schools I applied to have like 80 percent with a degree before matriculation.

This trend will continue and by the time you apply, you would be better off having one 🙂

Some of my friends have applied without a bachelor's and got in just fine, but a degree does make you more competitive. For me, I'm hoping it's just one more advantage to help offset my not-so-stellar GPA. I think schools also like applicants with a BS because it means that you've taken quite a few upper-division science courses, and you're showing them that you're more prepared to handle the course load of pharmacy school than someone who has only had to deal with ochem and basic bio.

ave a back up plan and work on a degree. You don't wanna be caught not getting into pharmacy school and not having any sort of backup plan.

Just keep taking classes as though you were seeking your bachelor's but focus on getting the pre-reqs finished for the schools you are seeking to apply to. Apply when you will be finished with them before your matriculation in the fall if you were to be accepted. You never know if you will get the acceptance letter, but you can at least try. If you don't get in, keep working towards a degree and apply again. I know many people that tried 5 years in a row to get in before they finally did. If you truly want to be a pharmacist, you will not give up and keep trying.

I got my B.S. many moons ago. I better go flip it over and check out the expiration on the back. Maybe it's still worth something after all.

A couple of schools that I talked to during their information nights told me that they do not look at people with a degree any differently than people without one...but then again every school is different. It is common sense though that it WILL make you more competative

thanks hopefully ill get in before i have to finish my degree
