The only reason why I ask is because the program I want to go to doesn't offer 4-year track, and I'd like to do prelim FP (if I could) instead of surg or IM mainly because I'd have more options in that city.

Is there any reason why you can't? Does it look bad?

That is something I have been considering also. What I don't know is that do FP progs. offer a perlim year? If they don't then you might have trouble matching simultaneously into two categorical progs. i.e. FP and anesthesia. Unless you match into FP then look for openings in anesthesia for the following year and switch into it by breeching your contract. I think that's how it might work. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
