when it comes to having your own practice....whats the difference between these two specialties? what are the pluses and minuses of each? What would be the differences in lifestyles and pay?

IM sees adults only. FP sees all ages.

If you have your "own practice," YOU will be the biggest determinent of your lifestyle. For all specialties, compensation is dependent on the service. For example, a DO FP that does a throat culture bills the same amount as a MD IM that does the same one.
