I'm MD/PhD and didn't even do that.

What I would suggest doing is waiting until you get your first research grant, then cashing it in for all $100 bills, and framing them and putting them up all around your house. That'll show 'em. 😛

My roommate in undergrad did that. I say you go ahead and do it--the fact that you're considering doing it means that you already are that guy, and anybody who knows you well enough to be in your apartment probably already knows this about you.

Haha. Classic.

Sure. Just hang it next to the velvet Elvis.

decision is no

Because of a few comments on SDN?

I sent a copy to my parents thanking them for paying for my education, then framed it and sent it to them for their wall, where it still hangs 25 years later.

Nothing "loser" about it. Why would you even ask random folks on SDN about something like this?😕

Framing a publication? I can kind of understand people wanting to do that (especialy if they were first author) but I personally wouldn't. Maybe if it got published in something huge (Nature/Cell/NEJM)

In undergrad I printed it out and put it on my fridge. Even that was likely too much. Don't frame it bubs

I had a friend who did it for his first first author - never heard a single negative comment about it (in fact many people thought it was a nice touch). I was hoping this thread would feature links to good frames or anything other than a deleted first post 🙁 oh well. Kind of surprised it's considered so negative. I think if you made a point to physically tell everyone to look at it that would be obnoxious but I don't see anything wrong with simply putting it up there.

I don't see this as any different than framing a diploma. I'd argue that it takes more work to publish anything than just graduate anyway.

That said, I lost the journal my first publication was in and I have no idea where my diploma is, so I guess grain of salt and all that.

Never thought about framing my pubs. But I thought about framing my acceptance letters this year next to the rejection letters from last year...until I remembered angrily crumpling and stomping on those rejection letters and throwing them away like a diapered 2 year old last year. Oh dear, the pride...

It's different because people commonly frame diplomas and put them on their office walls. People don't usually frame papers they published (I guess if it was in Science or something that would be okay). As far as taking more work, I think me and all the others that got published before graduating would argue otherwise.

Lmao please don't OP I'm cringing ATM just from thought of how beta that is.

Seriously don't be that guy

I don't really see the issue. If it's something you're proud of and especially if you are first author then frame it and put it in your office someday. There are a lot nerdier things you could do.

Survivor DO
