I am 67 years old and I went to the dentist today. They said I need a deep cleaning which I do but the dentist is a jerk. Anyway they set me down and said we can do a deep cleaning for you for X amount of money and just sign this form. She said your under no obligation and it just says the price is good for 30 days. I didn't have my glasses and didn't feel good not to mention I'm a senior citizen so like a fool I sign it. So when I got the form back it said "I understand and accept the prescribed treatment and any associated charge." Now isn't it true that I can cancel any contract within 3 business days? This just sounds like fraud to me.

You can probably cancel anytime you like. You didn't start it yet and you didn't pay yet. You may or may not need a deep clean; nobody here knows so we cannot recommend either way. But if you don't wanna do it or don't have the money to do it then so be it.

If the dentist is a jerk then you need to find a new dentist. Sounds like this guy hates his life right now, or he's just an dingus, and most likely it affects his abilities as a dentist. So find a new dentist that you are comfortable with!

When you talk about contracts now you're going into the legal realm, so to get proper advice you'd have to consult a contract lawyer.

Are you sure you didn't just sign a consent form stating you understand the treatment plan and giving him permission to do the treatment when you come back? Nothing in your post screams out fraud to me unless he is forcing you to pay regardless of if he does the cleaning or not. Maybe some more details would help but sounds like you are just over reacting.

Here is the full statement:

I have read and received a copy of the dental treatment plan. This office has informed me of the of the procedures to be performed as well as possible alternatives. I understand and accept the prescribed treatment and any associated charge. If the treatment plan should change, this office will inform me as soon as possible. The estimated fees quoted on this treatment plan will be honored by this office for the next 30 days.

I also sign and dated it 2 days into the future.

OP demonstrates what I fear the most about being a dentist; as a dentist you're exposed to the general public that can be bat-****-crazy.

I read this as the doctor proving 'informed consent'. You are making a mountain out of a mole hill and are needlessly worrying.

it sounds like a typical consent form. if you don't trust your dentist, do both you and the dentist a favor and find another dentist who accepts medicare. maybe even tell the dentist how you feel about him or her. the most important goal that we like to build is trust between us and the patients.
