Hello All,
I'm desperately looking for advice! I was accepted to 3 of the 4 pharmacy schools I applied to this year. Its normal for me to worry about everything and currently i'm in freak-out mode. I am concerned that I will not be able to handle the work in pharmacy school. I have a 3.5 currently, but struggled during my freshman year of college. I worry that making the transition to pharmacy school will be another struggle. I did not wait to graduate before applying to pharmacy school and I don't know whether to stay where I am and finish my degree or go to pharmacy school. On top of this, I cannot make a decision about which school to go to if I do decide to go. Temple vs. Howard...

Is it normal to feel this way before pharmacy school? I'm literally freaking out. I am a complete perfectionist and I cannot stand the idea of struggling in pharmacy school. Please help! :scared:

I think you just need to chill out, pick the school you like that best and get ready to go.

If you do struggle the first little bit.. so what? You figured out how to succeed the first time why would you doubt yourself now?

Just take a few deep breaths and figure out which pharm school you want to attend.

I completely understand how you feel, but the reality of the situation is that pharmacy school is a professional school. You will be entering a much higher level of education than what you have been accustomed to, and this time, you're learning for keeps because patients' lives will depend on you. As for whether you will be ready without a degree, absolutely. If you got accepted, that means the school deems you qualified to pass their curriculum. The real question is whether you want to be a pharmacist. If you know you want to be a pharmacist, then go! The challenge of pharmacy school will be the same regardless of whether you have a degree or not, or whichever school you go to.

Cannot stand the idea of struggling in pharmacy school? That seems pretty lame to me, no offense. What do you think we can tell you to overcome that? You have done fine based on a 3.5 gpa and 3 pharmacy schools accepted you, obviously they feel you can handle the courseload. Just do what you've done up until this point...

being in freak-out mode is the problem here.

I'm kind of in the same boat because I'll be entering with only the bare prereqs, and most of my fellow classmates will have had higher courses or degrees. But don't freak out too much- like what others have said, if we were good enough to get accepted then we should be good enough to graduate.

Pick a school that you think will offer the best learning environment. I talked with a recent alumni of my school, Campbell, and he was in the same situation that we were in. He also got in without an undergrad degree, so the high level of education shocked his system in his first year. But he got accustomed to the pace and attributes his success to great teachers and positive environment.

I am also in freak out mode because I am not sure I can pass the classes that I still need to take to finish the prereqs for pharmacy school. They are sooo difficult!

Also I got through undergraduate by taking difficult classes in the summer so the workload was not so intense but I do not think I will have that option in pharmacy school. Also I enjoyed the flexibility in being able to schedule my own class load in undergraduate but once again lose that in pharmacy school. I got through undergraduate by "working the system" to my advantage but now it is going to be an entirely new system.

I have seen a lot of people do worse in classes/tests because they freak out WAY too much. Learn to relax and freak out productively.

I am kind of the same way...I worry about everything, but I'm trying to work on this personality flaw. Worrying constantly is really detrimental to your life and can be to your overall health as well.

The reality is that you can't be successful at everything in life, but you gotta try to do something. Pick a school, go, have a great time. More than likely you will be just fine.

The coursework in Pharmacy school is just like Graduate or Medical School. I graduated from undergrad in 2001 with a degree in chemistry and gpa was 3.39. I went to graduate school and even though the coursework is faster paced, it is still very doable. I left after my first semester to go work into industry as an analytical development chemist for a pharmaceutical company, with a 3.70 GPA. The thing is, when you get to pre-professional or graduate school I found the coursework to be challenging but fun, because you want to be there. You don't have to take any bull**** classes anymore. You get to focus on becoming a pharmacist which I think we will rather enjoy. Sure it will be challenging, but quit freaking out, because it is challenging for everybody.

Also, you were accepted into 3/4 schools, which means they believe in you, time for you to believe in you.
