Hey guys, I am freaking out and worried that I wont be able to finish my
my application and wont be accepted and will have to wait a year. I am a 3rd year student and want to apply for 2008 and havnt taken the DAT's. I want to take the DATs in september, but I've seen posts that reccomend not to... BUT I want to ask any way... have any of you guys taken your first DAT test in september and then turned in your app and was it succesful? Was studying from mid june to september enough? Help me out here and give me some great advice please. I dont want to waste much time and want to prepare for the DAT's the best way possible.

Thanks in advance.

Studying mid June to September is way more than enough time... I mean its really a lot of time. So if you start studying mid June, you might realize that you're actually ready to take the DAT in August. I know a lot of people will tell you that taking the DAT in Sept (or even Aug) is too late, but that really depends on your scores, when you submit your AADSAS app, and how qualified of a candidate you are.
My advice is regardless of when you take the DAT submit your AADSAS app in June, because that can take weeks (and many of them) to process. Your DAT will be available to schools just a few days after the exam, and some schools allow you to fax in your scores (especially is they have been waiting for them). Now if your DAT scores are spectacular and you have a great GPA, good dental experience, and ample volunteer work (in any field), then taking the DAT in Sept will not really hurt you.
I can't stress this enough, but the most important part of applying is submitting your AADSAS application early. That way, by the time your GPA is verified, and they actually mail out the application to schools, it'll be Aug and you'll have your DAT scores ready shortly after that.

I hope that was helpful; good luck!

Hi everyone,

I'm new to this site. I'm actually planning on taking the DAT this coming summer. I'll be applying as soon as the application comes out, so I'll try to send the application in on June 1st. When should I take the DAT? Can I take it at the end of June or sometime in July or is that too late? Are we actually allowed to take the DAT after sending in the applivation? I'm really confused. Please someone help!!!!

I'm in total agreement with Mila! I took the DAT early August and still had a few Dec 1st acceptances. So there is hope for August takers. But submit as early as possible! I submitted end of July, and it took forever to process! I feel so lucky that things worked out the way they did, but seriously get that app out ASAP (but making sure you take the time to proofread of course!)

I sumbitted my app in August and took the DAT late Sept and got a Dec 1 acceptance.

Yes you can take the DAT after sending out your application, and I highly recommend this. Taking the DAT in June/July is perfect. Good luck!

Take the DAT when you know that you are truely ready. If you take it before being adequately prepared, you risk being unhappy with your score and wasting money!

very nice advice.
I am in my 3rd year but I don't think I am ready to take it this year.
Even if it means that I have to wait another year, I will make sure that I get 30 on DAT like I promised🙂scared🙂 and go to dental school instead of getting low score and wait another year.
