Gawd, the wait is going to kill me ... again!

I'm ranking 13, but #13 kind of sucks. Most of the program have 2 spots, one has 3. I've written so many thank you notes that my hands hurt. I've emailed PDs that have programs that I'm specifically interested in. I've had a few phone calls made to #1 and #2. My home program has been contacted by attendings I worked with. It may seem like overkill, but I just want my best foot put forward, and "show interest".

Anyone else freaking out?

Congrats on so many interviews and options as far as your rank list goes..very impressive.

Since I will be in your shoes in a year, I have a couple of dumb questions. First, what do you say to the PD's when you call the on the phone? Do you tell your top program "I'm ranking you #1, or..?" And what about programs that you ranked 3rd or 4th? Have you found that PD's are receptive to your phone calls, or is it extremely awkward?

Best of luck with the match..sounds like you are a strong applicant with nothing to worry about=) But I'm sure it is nerve racking...

I'm right there with you Simul. I've started taking Prilosec for chronic acid reflux b/c of the stress. I've done the same things as you, I suspect. Informed my top ranked programs of my intent, sent "thank you's" to everybody, etc.

Ranked 12 -- we can only wait . . .

Yeah, I am right there with you guys too. I went to Mardi Gras for the weekend, and still only managed to get the match partially off my mind. Though admittedly, the surplus of pina coladas did help.

Ranked 14...did not receive any calls from PDs in the final weeks. That makes me even more nervous...

Good luck everyone!

is it standard to receive calls from PD's? if so, i also didn't receive any calls.
i would think with the field being so competitive and all, it would be unusual for them to call.

I know of one person who got called by 3 programs, and one class mate who got called by 2. Otherwise, no one else I have kept in touch with has been contacted. Probably more the exception than the rule...hopefully.

perhaps i'm deluding myself 😕 however, some of the west coast programs specifically told us that they will not call or email us after the interview. we have been advised to initiate contact with programs if they are indeed our top choices. so i'm hoping that lack of communication is not necessarily a sign of disinterest. it is also difficult to know what these phone calls really mean. unless they say that you're ranked to match (which probably doesn't happen very often), the programs could be calling 3-4 x the number of spots they have. i'm keeping my fingers crossed until March 16 (hopefully I won't get a phone call on the Monday prior telling me I didn't match 🙂 )! good luck everyone!

I've gotten a couple of calls but you have to take them with a grain of salt. I certainly believe that the PDs I've spoken to are honest, but that doesn't mean I'll shorten my rank list. However, I'm not adverse to some serious re-shuffling based on what they say.

After all, unlike programs, my rank list IS affected by their input 😉

Why would you shuffle your list based on phone calls? Your chances of matching at a program aren't better because you rank them highly - you should rank programs in the order you like them, regardless of what you think your chances of matching are.

I've gotten a couple of phone calls, but not many. They were nice to get, but did not affect my ranking of programs.

Best of luck to everyone with the final ROL submissions in 36 hours :luck:

Well in my particular case there were two programs that I really could not decide b/w -- I would've been equally happy @ either. But a call from one was the factor that put one over the other. I prefer to go where I get a little 😍

Let me also echo the well-wishes of others on this thread. It has been both enjoyable and humbling to meet many of you on the trail. Hopefully there will a light at the end of the tunnel for all of us.

Was wondering if anyone has received calls from prelim programs? No love for me here either. Typically I wouldn't worry but someone told me that prelims have gotten increasingly competitive as well due to the increased number of applicants going into subspecialties so I'm beginning to wonder if I should have applied to more prelim programs.

No program made contact with me. I e-mailed a "first choice" letter to the chairwoman and program director. I never talked to any program directors on the phone, although maybe that might have been a good idea.

17 days, but who's counting?

This is so frustrating. I know I should just sit tight, but I'm so anxious.
