OK...so basically, I just found out that I got accepted to BU MAMS program today. I am freaking out because I don't know what to do. I have also been accpeted to, and was essentially planning on, attending UMDNJ's biomedical master's program (stratford campus...i.e. at the DO school). My husband and I are going out to NJ next weekend and are looking for a place for me to live and we have already started the fin aid process...basically the whole kit-and-caboodle...I even have my flight purchased at the end of July to move out there when school starts.

I don't know what to do! I didn't think I would get into BU's program because I hadn't heard from them in eons and I submitted my app back in March (yes...March...I know). What do you guys think? I know BU's program is more well-known but do you think in the end it will really matter which program I go to? I really don't think I have a chance at MD school's even with an smp because my gpa is still below 3.0.

My plan was basically to go to NJ study hard and get NJ residency once my husband found a job (he has already submitted his resume to several places), and then apply to all the NJ schools as a resident, thereby, increasing my chances of acceptance (in addition to OOS schools).

Sooo...what do you guys think??? What would you do??

p.s. Thanks in advance for all your advice...I really really do appreciate it! 😀

Personally I would go with UMDNJ. It is a much cheaper school and with New Jersey residency you will have a much better shot at getting into medical school than you would if you did a masters at Boston (keeping in mind that your GPA is still below a 3.0).

Congratulation Planejane!

It seems like it would be a hard decision. Good luck.

Thanks nanaschool! 😀 Yes...it is a very difficult decision and I have a lot to think about. Thanks for the advice kingsingh...what you pointed out is one of the major things that is really pulling me in UMDNJ's direction.....we'll see though!

Tough decision! I chose BU over UMDNJ (Newark) because I thought it was a stronger (and maybe more well-known??) program. I'm not a NJ resident though, and that would definitely be helpful with UMDNJ.

One thing I might consider is if you are interested in osteopathic medical schools (your post said your gpa might be too low for MD?). If this is the case, UMDNJ might be better for your situation because the Stratford campus is a DO school. It probably doesn't matter if you do your program at a MD or DO school, but regardless, it might help you a little in applying to DO schools - just my thoughts at least.
