This was posted in the MD forum already and I saw this on slickdeals early. But I figure what the hell not everyone visits that forum.

while there is no "official" DAT stuff by kaplan, they tend to repeat stuff anyhow. you can use the mcat chem, bio, and ochem perfectly fine. My brother's kaplan dat stuff from 1994. practically Identical to the fat kaplan text they give you and the one you can buy in bookstores.

I busted out my old SAT II math book as practice on math section.

You don't have to have an ipad/iphone/ipod touch to use the books.

I'm not sure how locked down kaplan's free book will be but there are plenty of software avaliable for free to let you convert the epub files to pdf and you can freely read it on your desktop/laptop.

Every buck counts in my book. Even though I won't need it I'll still be grabbing them. Free is free. 🙂

First of all, thanks for sharing that info.

I tried the links, it doesn't seem to work out.. that means it will open tmrw (Monday)???

You said that it cannot download in any other device. So we have to have iphone/itouch/ipad to download???

It doesn't start until tomorrow.

You don't need to actually own and ipod touch/iphone or ipad to download anything from the itunes store. I don't own an ipad but download any paid ipad apps/games that are free for a limited time. Maybe I'll buy one maybe I won't. Or some dental school will want to be cool and "encourage" (force/already billed) me to get an ipad for classes. Stanford med is doing it.

Back on topic, You just need to install itunes on your computer make yourself an account. You don't even have to provide any real info or a credit card or anything like that. then you can just download away.

The one thing is I am not sure how locked down the ebooks kaplan is giving away free will be. Printing for instance maybe locked. the file format the ibooks are in epub which there are plenty of programs available. Adobe for instance has a reader. I prefer converting to pdf as everyone knows whats needed to read those files.

Tomorrow we'll find out more and I'll update the post to reflect any issues I encounter. Hopefully there won't be any.

.... its not working...

anyone got this to work? let me know. The links doesn't work.

But on itunes, i found "Smart Vocab MACAT lite" which is free.

But you can't use it unless you have iphone/ipad stuffs... my itouch won't be fixed before i take DAT. 😡

anyways, plz get back to me if anyone get this to work

YES....It does not work....

BTW...
So you have until 8/30 to read the book, after that you gotta pay full price to access it?

Ok guys.

It looks you need to have an iphone/ipod touch or ipad to download the files.

you can't access the books sections from itunes. You can sync what you download back into itunes.

I assumed you could. Figured that since it wasn't 8/24 you couldn't see anything.

But anyhow if you get your hands on an iphone/ipad/ipod touch as long as you download when it is free then it should be free forever. Just like all the games/apps i downloaded. The books show up on my "purchase" history.

I am sorry to get some of you guys hopes up. Most of hte time I download via my ipod touch and sync things back onto a mac we have as I hate itunes on the pc.

I have to finish up some 2ndary apps, I will look into this further and see how tied down the files are. In the mean time I suggest you guys check the slickdeals link.

someone there may have time and possible grabbed all the books and put them up so you can download them.

Ok so if I download it to an ipod touch one of my family members owns, can I put it on a laptop from the ipod touch?

Ok. I downloaded some of the books.

the files are not locked in anyway. Once I synced the books to my itunes library I was able to search for the actual .epub files and copied them and was able to read them on my various other laptops.

There is 1 small caveat from me. I used a mac for all my ipod related stuff. itunes just sucks on the pc.

it should still be the same on a pc. transfer "purchases" off, search for the actual .epub files and copy them off.

So to summerize.
- Download the Ibooks app onto your iphone/ipod touch/ipad. You need to have the version 3.2 or higher on your device to get to the ibooks store.
so 1st gen ipod touches and the original iphone will not be able to grab this.

- search for the title you want and then download.

- sync "purchases" off device.

- search for the actual .epub files

- enjoy.

Thanks so much!!! This is a great help!
