Is it worth doing? I'm going to be taking a FL tomorrow and I figured it would be the free online CBTs, before I start purchasing the actual AAMC CBTs. Would I be wasting my time? By the way, is it any one of the actual FL's that are offered through the class? (i.e., FL 11 or something like that)

I figure that if it is indeed a marketing ploy - higher than usual difficulty - and I do poorly, I have more motivation to study harder with a month to go. If I do well, I can feel good about it... and study more.

What about TPR's free online CBT?

To be honest, i had gotten the MCAT premier CD with computer tests...and the CBT interface on that was HORRIBLE...just awful...i hadnt seen an actual CBT at that time, so i freaked out, not knowing if the real test interface was that crappy, but luckily AAMC is a LOT better...also, im pretty sure their online tests is just an older full length they give in class thats been modified...so make sure you havent done it yet...

Yes, they are worth taking, but they're fairly difficult. The Kaplan free online is shortened, and the TPR online is the full 52/40/52. And GS has a free one too. And of course the AAMC 3 freebie. Yay 🙂

What a joke. I just took the Kaplan free online CBT today and I got 10PS (67%), 10VR (71%), and 12BS (78%). I would like to add that the verbal reasoning section is inaccurately timed just like the half-lengths on the Premier Program CD. You get significantly less time than you'd expect on the real thing. (6 passages, 45 questions, 50 minutes (!)) However, I didn't really mind it that much as I finished on time. However, the conditions you take the test in are way different. It's definitely more of a diag than a practice MCAT.

In general I thought the questions were not very well written (especially in PS and VR) in comparison to tests that better reflect the actual MCAT. A lot of it depended on rote memorization. There was even a discretes question in the BS section asking for the structure of y-lactone. I was like, what the **** kind of lameass question is this? I figured it was a cyclic ketone of some kind but all of the choices showed cyclic chains with carbonyl groups. Wow. You definitely should do poorly if you didn't have any studying done ahead of time, and you definitely won't get some of those things unless you memorized useless things which they don't expect you to have memorized even for the actual MCAT.

I can't even go back and look at the questions I got wrong. So it wasn't very useful in general. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone not looking for motivation or looking for a confidence booster.

Despite this test obviously not being a good indicator of test-readiness, getting a such low %'s (especially on PS and VR) pisses me off and I at least have a stronger reason to study harder. So at least I didn't completely waste the last 3 hours with this annoying, poorly-written (at least with regards to the MCAT) test.
