Hey all!

I tried looking around for an answer to my really simple question but couldn't find anything recent.

anyways I am an undeclared premed student and for my schedule i am signed up for one semester of math and it's called mat132 which is like calc2. anyways i will be only taking a semester of calc then.

the course description for mat132 is:
A continuation of MAT 131, covering symbolic and numeric methods of integration; area under a curve; volume; applications such as work and probability; improper integrals and l'Hospital's rule; complex numbers; sequences; series; Taylor series; differential equations; and modelling. May not be taken for credit in addition to MAT 127, MAT 142, MAT 171, or AMS 161. This course has been designated as a High Demand/Controlled Access (HD/CA) course. Students registering for HD/CA courses for the first time will have priority to do so.

I was curious of what the norm was... do people take calc 1? calc2? how many semesters of math do they usually take? should i drop down to mat131 so i can have a full 2 semesters of calc??

if not I was thinking of taking a basic stats course next semester because during my googling i found that some med schools like stats (?) what do you guys think about it?

Some med schools require more math than others. Take a peek at a couple schools' websites (ones you're potentially interested in), and see what their requirements are...

There is a high degree of variability among math pre-reqs for medical schools. Some have no requirement, others go as far as requiring a year of calculus or 1 semester of calculus and one semester of stats. If I were you, I would just stick with the class you are currently registered for (calc 2), and take stats later down the road.

In general though, the math requirement is not anything to stress about, because if you get into a school that has a math requirement that you don't meet, you can always take that math class in the spring of your senior year. Schools only care that you meet pre-reqs before matriculation.

okay thanks!. so i am going to do one semester of calc then one semester of stat cause the school i am most interested in requires one year of mathematics.

thanks for all the help!

how can i lock a thread btw?
