okay so my first semester freshman year GPA was not so great.. a cGPA of about 2.7 ... and the thing is a lot of these classes were prereqs such as chem and bio so my sGPA is pretty horrible

but i've been doing better each semester. 2nd semester freshman year i raised it to a 3.1 but my overall gpa was still under a 3.0 🙁

and i just finished first semester of sophomore year with a 3.67 along with volunteering, working for a doctor, and doing research during the semester.

If i keep at this upward trend + more ecs + possibly redo my messed up classes freshman year..
do I have a shot at MD? or should i go D.O

Yes, you certainly still have a shot at MD. A bad freshman year is not all that uncommon. I am basing this on people I know personally, who had worse than a 2.7 freshman year and still got into MD schools.

It really depends on how well you do from now on. If you continue the upward trend and do well on the MCAT (to demonstrate you know the material in the prereqs, among other things), I think you should be fine for MD, Be sure to evaluate your study methods. Find what has worked and what hasn't worked, and adjust your methods accordingly. Go to office hours, study with classmates. If there are tutoring services on campus, utilize them! Good luck!!

Make no mistake, you need better than 3.67 semesters from now on.

Also, I believe you need at least a C in the pre reqs for them to count.

MD is not closed to you, but you have hamstrung yourself. You know if you're doing well enough to get a 4.0 or not. If you need help, seek it. You're not alone; almost everyone who works at your university is there to help you.

Don't give up, but don't relax, either. Pre-meds need a fire under their butts to achieve the things they aspire to. Maybe this is yours.

^forgot to mention this!

Just get urgent about the situation! MD is not closed by any means, but try to bang out some 4.0's and 3.9+'s from here on out and you should be right in the running! Just put a lot of time in! You can do it.
