Hi, I'm taking organic chem 1 and I currently have a D+. My counselor told me that I could do freshmen retake. Freshmen retake is retaking a course so the 2'nd grade will replace your 1'st grade so the 1'st grade won't count towards the GPA at all. However the 1'st grade will still be on my transcript, just not calculated into my GPA. I was just wondering if dental schools calc. GPA with both the 1'st and 2'nd grade, or just the 2'nd grade if I did the freshmen retake?

Thank You

Dental schools will factor both grades into your GPA. It doesn't matter how your school handles it - every grade is factored in, even re-takes. That being said, if you re-take and nail the course, it shows perserverance.

AADSAS counts EVERY grade. So if you take orgo lets say 3 times, they will count every one. So your college GPA may be good but your AADSAS will be not what you want. When you retake, make sure to do really well so it can make up for the lower grade.

Does this include dropped classes, droping a class halfway through the semster (not a withdraw).

nanilla...If you do an unauthorized withdraw, which is basically dropping a class without following university policies you'll recieve a UW. UW's are factored into your gpa as fails. UW's are usually given out when a professor is doing final grades and they don't have any work or even a face to go with a particular student on their roll sheet. Since you didn't actually fail anything they'll chalk you up as a student who withdrawed without authorization. My advice is to make sure you withdraw from classes properly. If not AADSAS will factor a UW into your precious little gpa. 😛

I def. did it right, I dropped the class before the approved drop date.

Thanks
