Besides the 3 vs. 4 year distinction, which program has a stronger academic reputation? I have heard the other residency programs at Fresno aren't as strong as those at Davis, but I'm more concerned about the ability to pursue a fellowship or get an academic position in Cali after I graduate from one of these programs. Any thoughts? Thanks!

UC Davis has a great reputation. Several UCD EM grads did the tox fellowship at UCSD. Mark Sutter who is now the director of the UCD tox program did his fellowship at Emory/CDC. One of my classmates did the hyperbarics fellowship at UCSD. Just to name a few.

Having been a student at Davis and worked a prelim year in Fresno, I say
Davis definitely has a stronger academic reputation. Lots of nationally known faculty. They have better consultants in almost every field. They produce more research. Non emergency residencies in Davis are stronger, more residents overall in various programs.

I knew a Fresno Grad who ended up doing a Tox Fellowship in San Diego. A few became Academic faculty elsewhere, so it's not impossible to get into Academics from there.

a fellowship director will look at who you are and what you've done during residency, not where you've trained (at least in EM this is true). Either program is super.
