"Carl is obsessed with cleanliness and control. Which stage of Freud’s Stages of Psychosexual Development has Carl become fixated at?' Khan Academy
Ans- Anal stage
If a kid unsuccessfully completes a stage that means that a child becomes fixated at that particular erogenous zone.
Does that mean that when they grow up they become clean or is the question wrong?

I don't quite understand your question but the q&a from khan look fine to me.

Sorry, I would've thought that once you're fixed at a stage, you'd indefinitely attain the negative characteristic, in this example, since Carl got fixed at Anal, he'd be messy. However, the q says that Carl is a clean person rather than messy when fixed at Anal stage. I feel I missed a point throughout but can't identify it. How did Carl go from supposedly messy to a clean person?
Thanks 🙂

The key word is "obsessed". I don't remember this perfectly but from what I do remember is that anal stage dealt with becoming more aware of cleanliness and stuff. So if they get fixated in that stage they'll have a more unhealthy obsession like what the question says.
