Hi All,

I am 30 y old Architect. I am thinking a lot of going back to medecine and change my career. Is anyone who come from a similar background did this leap? Also any tips advice are welcomed. I got accepted to PreMed- at Gtown and AU...Please advice, i am just a little worried if it is worth it, and how tough is it to go back and study Bio101, Chem101, etc...

What do you mean by "worth it?"

At the end of the day, you'll need to ask yourself, "Self, do I really want to be a doctor?"

If the answer is yes, then you need to do it. If you'll be happy doing something else, then you're better off doing that something else, since the road to a career in medicine is long and winding.

Hey architect,

I too am an architect going into medicine. I start my post bac next fall. I would recommend taking some time to see if its really for you, volunteer, talk to your family physician, what have you. The pre-med courses aren't extremely difficult but they will require some time budgeting and more than likely the whole process will take 4 or 5 semesters to get everything taken care of...if i may ask, what exactly brought you to medicine? and away from architecture? you have several more years experience than i do but you aren't the first architect i have encountered who is thinking of getting out of the design business...i took bio and physics in undergrad both were pretty easy but i was also a full time student and didn't also have to think about schematic deadlines and construction documents...
