Guys,

Took an exam. Feels like alot of low yield stuff being tested on my school's exam and almost looks like I should give up on maintaining A's. I see alot of my classmates busting *** fand memorizing minutes details in micro like if a rodent is a primary host in lacross fever or Hanta or that serology is a better test than PCR for leptospira etc. What the hell. The top student in my class still knows this but he/she makes like 200 cards + notes + books + 15 hours studying!

Do you guys really think USMLE will test something like that? I just don't know if knowing minutiae like that is worth the effort than other stuff.

when your level of comfort with a subject extends to knowing minutia, then you will have no problem being questioned on the basics (~60% of the material in Step 1). There are also some questions (~15%) which test your ability to apply your knowledge of the subject in a novel situation, and this is where knowing the minutia will really come in handy.

You said that you are aiming for 260+ or bust. Therefore, you should be hungry for information and assume that everything, regardless of how minute it is, is fair game on the real test.
