Wow, congrats. I have no idea what you're proposing to do, but that's a lot of mice.

What is the funding mechanism for this? R01?

yeah, R01

I think I was mistaken about the mice, though. The lab manager gave me a copy of the wrong proposal. This one is for monkey thrombocytopenia, which I guess makes sense. They wouldn't give up 7 figures for mice I don't think.

How does a student get an R01? Or is this as part of a lab grant..?

Has to be a lab grant. If not, congrats and I hate you for getting your own R01. 🙂

You guys are doing a chimp model? BTW, Why do we have to say "non-human primates" - as if people will think we're referring to humans when we say "primates".

Yeah, lab grant.

I did most of the work on the preliminary data though, so I feel vindicated nonetheless. Plus we are a pretty tight-knit group, so I'm just happy for everybody.

Maxprime: Not chimps, macaques. We work mostly in Cynomolgus (Macacca fasicularis fasicularis) and Rhesus (Macacca mulatta) monkeys.

Yeah I hear you on the term "NHP." That's obviously an attempt to be PC, plus in case you haven't noticed yet, physicians and scientists tend to invent new terminology for everything to try to make themselves feel/seem smarter than the layman 🙂
