I recently completed an elective in neurology and found that this feild really intrests me. I would like to persue this specialty but dont really know what being a neurologist entails. Are there many opertunities for a fellowship after a neurology residency; how is the lifestyle of a neurologist; general salary; is there a incline of intest and focus in this field.

I was informed that you can apply to a straight 4 yr program(1yr Int med 3 yrs neuro) or do 1 yr in int med and then apply into neuro. Is one way better than the other looking at future oppertunities. Or say you dont get into a straight program of your choice, can you do a year of Int med somewhere and apply do the program you want the following year. Would that increase your chaccnes of getting in.

Thank you

YOU CAN DO WHATEVER YOU WANT. ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS GET SOMBODY TO SIGN OFF ON THE IDEA. MOST PROGRAMS REQUIRE AN INTERSHIP (IE TRANSISTIONAL OR IM) but the board only requires 5mo of IM or something like that. Just call the board and do IM, Transitional, FP or whatever, but scale the intership to their requirements. Thats what most of us did. Althought the specialty is by far the most fascinating etc... etc.... It just isnt very competative right now...but thats what they said about radiology 6 years ago...good luck
