What do you guys think the future holds for the PT profession.. in terms of salary and availability of jobs?

I don't see salary doing a whole lot...I think alot depends on the future proposals for medicare reimbursement in the upcoming years. Much will depend on 2007 and 2008 prior to the next election. PT salaries are CLOSELY tied to medicare reimbursement.
PT is in an interesting place. A push towards a higher level of degree yet at the same time there is increased competition from massage therapists etc. I think the field is more competetive from a market standpoint.
There will always be a big need for PT, the geriatric market will open wide. The rest of the areas will be region specific.
