I am applying this cycle and will be graduating undergrad in December. I am having trouble with what to write on secondaries that ask what my plans for the 2011-2012 year are.
I do not currently have plans for the semester I have off (January-June 2012) and am looking for ideas for things to do. I would have loved to do something like Americorps or Teach for America but as far as I know all of these programs require a longer commitment than I have time for (assuming I matriculate in 2012).
I also am thinking I could just volunteer in a hospital or get a job in a doctor's office, but I don't think I could procure these positions this early (I would probably start applying in November or December).

Does anyone have any advice or ideas?

Thanks in advance!

You can easily find a volunteering position in a hospital, assuming you live in a realively populated area:

I know but do I need to get this volunteering position now..for January?
Or is it ok to write that I am unsure as of now what I will be doing in the semester I have off on my secondaries. I can write that I intend on volunteering and working part-time but I won't be able to write anything concrete? Is this generally looked upon as ok?

They are future plans. Just tell them whatever you want that sounds good. They just don't want to hear: "well... um... i'm probs gonna party all night b4 med skool nd then jurk it all dai long."

The great thing about future plans is that plans change so just type up whatever sounds good and then if you get an acceptance during the fall, instead go traveling or something fun.
