I will be graduating next month from Ohio State. I just received my loan totals and payback schedule from Direct Loans.

About me: Instate tuition all 4 years, no undergrad loans, no private loans, did not work during dental school.

Loans
Total: $166,000
Interest rate:6.8% fixed

Costs
Tuition and fees: $26,000/year (average)
Living expense: $15,500/year (average)

Repayment
10 year plan:
$1900/month
$23,400/year
Total repayment: $234,000

25 year plan:
$1220/month
$14,640/year
Total repayment: $365,000

This is a big contrast to the pollyannish 100k @ 5% numbers everyone uses on this site. Thanks for the info.

As on Ohio resident, I wanted to attend OSU as in-state over my current private school few years back. But with this $166k total cost, there are no more cheap tuitions. OSU will be charging about $200k in few years.
