I started college thinking that the MD/Ph.D route was what I wanted. Recently, I decided that I did not want the Ph.D anymore and that I wanted to go strictly MD. I am currently a junior, so this decision is kind of late in the game (better to know now right?). I am planning on taking time off after graduation to help strengthen my application. My plan is to take the MCAT at the end of this summer so I have enough time to study for it. Then, I'll apply for SMPs. I'll also look for a job (research tech, ER scribe, something medical related) just in case the SMP plan falls through. I just don't want to be a senior and realize that I have nothing planned after graduation. Does this sound like a good plan? Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks in advance for the input!

I don't know what you mean by the bolded, but you shouldn't be thinking "in case". When doing SMPs, you SHOULD do well on these. Outside of med school apps, they're basically worthless, so don't do one unless you know you can do well in them. If you do well in them, they're an excellent way to show that you can handle the med school rigor.

I mean, in the chance I don't get into an SMP. Sorry for not being clear!
