Hello!

I have already decided to take a a gap year and am researching one year masters programs. However I did some reading and I noticed that the biggest aspect medical schools look from applicants going into these masters programs is research.

This concerns me because I already have 2 years of research under my belt as a undergraduate ( I am primary author, the project is mine and doing well) If I already have research should I still consider doing a one year masters? If not what are some other things to do with a gap year?

I am looking into USF masters is medical science, and will be applying to a few others as well. I just need to make a decision soon before I take the GRE.

Also, how helpful is to to have a masters (MS) as well as an MD? Would that allow entrance to clinical research jobs and pharmacutical companies as well?

I would check if the program lets you use your MCAT score in lieu of the GRE - that would save you some trouble.

The reviews from here about USF MS program is bleh. Although traditional MS students have potent residency potential, moreso than just B.S/B.A. degrees statistically speaking.

They do accept MCAT but I wouldn't be ready to take it until after the MS application is due. 🙁

I've read some of the reviews, I am a mildly competitive student as of right now. But I want something worthwhile to do during that year.
