Hello everyone. I'm currently a rising senior at a state school in PA. My cgpa is 3.52 and sgpa is 3.4. I'm hoping to raise it to a 3.6 by the end of senior year, I came in as a engineering major which lowered my freshman year GPA but I've had an upward trend since then. I've received a 505 on my MCAT and feel I have enough shadowing, clinical, and outside volunteering hours. In addition, I've been working with a neuroscience lab for the past 2 years and have leadership experiences. I wanted to take a gap year honestly to avoid burning out. My parents are very against the idea because they think it shows a lack of motivation and dedication for medicine, but I'm very for the idea. I was weighing options on what I could do and wanted to see what others thoughts were. My first concern is whether I should consider an SMP or postbacc for my lower gpa?
Ideally, I'd like to complete an MS in infectious diseases because I'm very interested in the subject and I feel like it would aid me in my goals of specializing in pathology. I'd also consider doing the research postbacc with NIH (IRTA program) or getting a job in clinical research for a year. Any advice would be appreciated thanks!

MS if it is not an SMP is a waste of money, I would get a job. You don't need an SMP, your GPA is fine for DO schools and with this MCAT, MD is out of the reach anyway.
