For my gap year, I have received offers for a medical assistant position as well as an AmeriCorps tutoring position. Is it a no brainer to go with the medically-related job or would both have about the same value?

Go with the job that allows the most flexibility for interviews. Americorps would probably more meaningful but it doesn't pay very well.
