Is anyone else planning on taking a gap year and applying for med school in the fall of 2014? I'm looking for a full-time job so I can save up a little money to help me buy a car and actually pay for applications! I'm trying to weigh my options and here are my ideas so far:
1) Medical Scribe (full time). Sounds like some really great clinical experience. But, it only pays $10 an hour and with a bachelor's degree I think I can probably do better than that?
2) Lab tech (I've found pathology and orthopedic positions in my area so far). However I get the feeling that most hospitals want a two year commitment so that all the training they give you pays off (I'm only interested in taking one gap year). I'm also worried that I don't have the experience that these types of positions want right off the bat.
3) Clinical research positions?? Haven't really found any of those in my area yet...
What are everyone else's plans, for those of you taking a year (or a few) off from school?
