I am a senior pre-med student who is graduating in May. I have already taken the MCAT in May but want to take a year or two after college before starting medical school. I have two offers, one to join Teach For America in New Orleans and another to join a Medicaid Consulting company. Would one of these opportunities strengthen my application more than the other? How do med schools look at healthcare consulting jobs vs. service opportunities?

Not being an adcom myself I can't speak toward the desirability of one as compared to the other, but I help advise premeds at my alma mater and consulting jobs are notoriously bad about giving employees time off for interviews, second look days, etc. What's more, med schools tend to be especially lenient with Teach for America-- the med school I'm planning on attending automatically accepts deferral requests only for Teach for America and the Peace Corps. This relationship might go both ways. Something to keep in mind if you're planning to apply while working!
