Hi all,
Looking for some reassurance and advice. Matched OBGYN but got diagnosed with a chronic illness that made the specialty unfeasible in the long term. Took a leave of absence to get treatment, but ultimately decided to leave OBGYN at the end of my PGY1 year. My program was supportive and let me have time to take elective to explore other specialties. Interested in Psych and applying to the Match, but since I decided to switch later in my PGY 1 year, I have a gap while applying. I haven't had luck getting research jobs as I had planned- the place I was counting on didn't get funding this year.
Any suggestions or similar experiences? I'm working on taking STEP 3 and securing volunteer opportunities in my field of interest. How can I spin this during interviews? Are there any other gap year activities that you would suggest? I'd appreciate any help at this point.
