Why is acute gastritis erosive whereas chronic gastritis isnt (considering that chronic gastritis is atrophic)?

Acute- immediately destructive from excess acid or lack of protective barrier. Erodes away lining of stomach.

Chronic- more of a long term inflammation issue (either d/t H. pylori or autoimmune atrophic gastritis)

Do old people have erosions and ulcerations on their skin or do they have atrophic skin?
