Average expected survival is 12 months after diagnosis. I think 5 year survival is something like 10%. It's a nasty disease but not "as bad" as, say, pancreatic cancer, for whatever that's worth.

GBM can form one of two ways. Most are primary neoplasms. So there's no "cause" besides sporadic genetic mutation... same reason people get thyroid cancer or colon cancer or uterine cancer. Less common is a benign astrocytoma that undergoes malignant transformation.

Yeah it's one of those "bad" cancers to have due to it being aggressive and unresectable in most cases. Pancreatic cancer is bad because you are so asymptomatic for so long and once you find it you don't have long to go. Though it is also very painful.

My best friend just passed away (last Monday) from this, she was 36 years old, left 2 beautiful young kids (and a nasty mother&$%*&^% husband...who couldn't wait for this day). She was fightin it for about 4 years, even had surgery with no trace of it for about 6 months, then it just went down hill, she just could not keep her platelets high long enough to get treatment, plus she was very stressed and depressed due to her husband all of the sudden falling out of love for her, and eventually even bringing the new girlfriend along with her child to their home...sorry guys, I'm still very much enraged and possibly in denial she no longer walks with us...she died within 6 months. I trully had hope I could somehow elevate her platelets with some laugh and tikle therapy along with some hugs and yoga/meditation...I thought she would make it.🙁
A few people in her family 2 cousins and an older brother also died from exacly the same.
I'm sad again.

I am so unbelievably sorry. I cannot even imagine what it must be like to have a friend or family member with that diagnoses.
