Hi, this is my first post on sdn. I am a college junior that recently decided that dentistry was for me (rather than medicine). I plan to apply to schools this summer, so I need to take the DAT. I just received the DAT destroyer, but this seems only to have practice questions and solutions rather than actual content. My question is if EK gchem and ochem are sufficient studying materials for the DAT in terms of content review. They are pretty thorough, and I was hoping that studying them would be enough for a good score. Anybody that knows/has used these materials?

(little bit about me, I was premed for a while and took a diagnostic MCAT and scored 25 w/o opening a single book so my science background is about average. Ive yet to take a practice DAT)

Any help is appreciated!

Destroyer is solid, the more questions you practice the better you will do. Staring at dense material w/o applying the concepts can hurt you on test day. Check out some of the other members study schedules & materials they used in preparation for the exam, many of them scored really well on the DAT. Good luck

Thanks for your response. Just another quick question! it seems that a lot of DAT test prep is geared toward practice questions rather than content. For example, will going through all of the questions and explanations in destroyer be thorough enough for the DAT or is there some previous reference that needs to be gone through first before starting these questions?

A lot of people praise chad's videos for GC and OC. Some even enjoy his QR videos. Google Chad's Videos and pay up. People usually print out his outlines and take notes as they watch the videos. They follow up with DAT DESTROYER.

Prologue has it right...get Chad's videos for review, then do 1 x thru destroyer. Then re-watch chad's videos for the areas you struggled with in destroyer, then do destroyer again a few times before your test (including bio IMO).

That is a recipe for success many, many of us have used on this website to score mid-20's or better on the gc/oc portion of the DAT.

Check out the breakdowns of members. Lots of people who are done with the DAT posted up stuff they used and how they felt it was useful. Of course it will be all opinion, but at least it'll give you some areas to explore. I read more of these on this forums than anything else to get me started on what to purchase etc.

Practice is basically the main thing for the DAT I personally recommend Crack DAT for PAT and Reading, and Achiever for the best practice.

If you want to study the basics Kaplan's Blue book is the best starting point. Make sure you don't immerse yourself in the sciences only. Deal with PAT and RC or you'll hate yourself when you get high science scores and a really low PAT or RC score. My perceptual abilites were crap and English was my fourth language so it something I had to be extra careful about.
