I saw that Geisinger is “strongly recommending” the SJT for this upcoming cycle. This is what’s posted on their website’s FAQs:

“Applicants are not required to take the AAMC SJT. Your application will be considered complete if you do not have an AAMC SJT score. While the Admissions Committee may see that you did not take the AAMC SJT, they will be instructed to disregard missing AAMC SJT scores.”

So my question is: is this something that’s ‘optional but required?’ Geisinger is the only school on my list that’s doing anything with the SJT, so I am hesitant to spend time preparing for it if it SOUNDS like my app wouldn’t be negatively impacted by not taking it. I wasn’t even aware that registration was already open for it until about 20 minutes ago lol. I realize I would be going up against applicants who do complete it, but I’m just unsure of how much “value” the SJT actually has. Would appreciate some insight here, thanks 🙂

"strongly recommended" = should probably take it

Don't get me wrong, all these obstacles we have to jump through are BS but you just gotta play the system and increase your odds of getting an A the best you can. They literally say that not taking it won't hurt you. But taking it and doing well will likely help you stand out from the sea of applicants. Just my 2 cents
