Does it matter if I do not take Biology 2, and substitute for an upper level bio course? I had to drop Bio 2 once due to a TDY in army and another time due to a death followed by a death in my family. Not a hard class, but I don't want to have to pay out of state tuition for this course since Texas now requires anyone repeating a course for 3rd time or more to pay OOS tuition.

Advice?

I would ask the admissions office. The websites for schools do say 2 semesters of biology with lab, so i don't know if a substitute would suffice.

Depending on how the gen bio class at your school is structured. It usually comes down to two parts, with 1st semester being cell biology, and 2nd semester being ecology/populations. That case some school would take zoology or other ecological bio classes to satisfy your Gen Bio requirement. But definitely ask, each school can be different in determining that replacement course.

I didnt take gen bio 2, I called NYCPM and Scholl and they both said that anatomy and physio or microbio could substitute but I would still call to check that your schools particular class will suffice.

Not sure how relevant this is but my cousin didn't take the lab for gen bio 2 because he refused to let a fetal pig Get killed for his education (le sigh). He did just fine for MD admissions, though.
