Like the threads title I need some help from people hopefully in my position, currently or previously. Some background on me, I have bachelors in BA, did fairly well (not great) in college 2.9 GPA. I graduated in 2004 with no interest in medicine what so ever. Soon after I graduated I took a job with a Medical device company specializing in Orthopedics. I have been very fortunate, I have a great job and love what I do.

After spending almost 5 yrs in the medical field I am beginning to wonder if I should have pursued medicine. With no formal background in medicine (other than a focused clinical training in orthopedics), would it be required that I finish pre-med? How long will this take? Could I take pre-med courses at night and still keep my job? Can I apply to med school with a phenomenal Mcat but no pre-med? Is my average GPA in undergrad going to make this just a pipe-dream for me? Thanks for any help!

Your GPA hurts your situation, but it is not something that can not be overcome. You need to go back to school at night and complete the required "pre-med" core classes. (Bio1, Bio2, Gen Chem 1, Gen Chem 2, O Chem 1, O Chem 2, Physics 1, Physics 2) You should be able to continue working while you take these classes, but that depends on when the classes are offered by your local colleges. If you have to take ALL of the pre-med classes still, it will take you at least 4 semesters to complete (All the chemistry classes build on the previous class Gen Chem 1 through O Chem 2). I do not know of one single school that will accept you without taking this core curriculum of classes reagardless of what your MCAT is. Based on your non-traditional student status and your GPA your best bet will probably be an osteopathic (DO) medical school. Do well in those pre-med classes...Do well on your MCAT...And you should get accepted. I know that I did, and my OGPA is ~2.95.
