I just had a quick question about the upper level writing requirement for most medical schools. If I am currently a junior that is planning to apply to medical school this coming summer, how much of a difference does it make if I did not fulfill the 1 year upper level writing requirement? I have only done freshman level writing in my undergraduate institution so far.

Furthermore, is it okay if I can take the english course the second semester of my senior year versus the first semester? Does this not matter for most medical schools?

Thank you in advance

For almost every school (the only exception I can think of being UC Davis), pre-reqs can be taken any time before matriculation. So taking it during the spring semester of your senior year should be fine.

on AMCAS you can specify which courses you plan on taking in the future.

Most schools will recommend that you finish most of your pre-reqs prior to application, but completion prior to matriculation is acceptable, too.

Which medical schools require upper level english? Most that I've seen just require any writing intensive english course.

Most schools require two writing English classes. I don't know about your school, but we have a 101 level and then we have to take a 300 level because there isn't a general English credit except that 300 level one. There are other 100 level speech courses that most people take, but medical schools want two writing courses.
