If a patient needs root canal on tooth 31, which has a crown, and the dentist successfully removes the crown to facilitate root canal, how soon must the crown be reattached to prevent shifting of the tooth? On other words, is there a chance of the tooth shifting during the root canal procedure because the crown is off during the procedure?

What do you mean by tooth shifting? Do you mean extrusion of it along with the opposing tooth #2 above it?

I am talking about the natural tooth shifting that occurs after a crown is removed, which would cause the crown to not fit properly anymore.

During the few hours that the RCT takes? Not likely. At least not to the point where the crown won't fit anymore.

Thanks. That's what I hoped the answer would be.
