Med School: Mid Tier USMD
M1-M2 grades: Pass/Fail; all pass
M3 grades: 6/7 honors, HP Peds
M4 grades: Honors in Gen surg AIs
Class rank: 1st quartile
Step 1: Pass
Step 2: 276
AOA: Yes
GHHS: No
Demographics: white
Research: 4 projects that have been either submitted or in process with 1 published. ~12 research experiences listed on ERAS
Extracurriculars: A lot of tutoring and MedEd stuff that is pretty central to my career goals and application, interest group kind of stuff.
LORs: Good chair letter, APD letter, Division chief of high regard letter, and an assistant professor letter. I'd say all are strong and would vouch for me.
Geographic Signaling: Pacific, Mountain, East North Central
Red flags: None
Career goals: Surg onc maybe trauma/ACS
Signals: In no particular order - UCSF, Stanford, UCLA Geffin, Northwestern, UChicago, Michigan, USC/LAC, Cedar Sinai, UC San Diego, Colorado, Washington, UCLA Harbor, UC Davis, UI Chicago, UC Irvine, and my home school which thankfully not requiring us to signal.
Others: (Reach): Pitt, Johns Hopkins, Beth Israel, Mass Gen, Brigham Womens, UPenn, Vandy, Yale. (Targets): Oregon, Case Western, Ohio State, Maryland, Emory, Tufts, Boston Univ, Thomas Jefferson, Temple, Arizona Phoenix, Utah, Indiana. (baseline): Cleveland Clinic, George washington, Georgetown, Kaiser permanente LA, Loyola, Mayo Arizona, MCW, Rutgers, Case western/Metro health, Arizona Tuscon, UCSF Fresno, UCSF East bay, New Mexico, Wisconsin, Rush.
Q's:
-Is this list delusional? Is this a list I can get 12+ interviews from? Feel like my signals have 6 reaches, 4 targets, and 5 baselines. Not expecting much from my non signals, basically going hard in the geo preferences with programs I'd be happy to attend and learn more about. Hoping for a couple extra interviews.
-I'll be couples matching with a strong IM applicant (26x 2nd quartile). Any changes to try and maximize ranks in the same city?
