Hi I have been accepted to a few new schools in the carribean. They do have accreditation. However, I was wondering if it is worth it to take another year, write the MCAT and apply to the bigger schools like Ross or SGU? I mean what are my chances of getting in? What GPA is good and what MCAT score is good?
Thanks.😕 I heard that the school you went to starts to count when you apply for residency is that true? How much can it help you at that stage?

I would suggest applying to Ross, taking the MERP program for 3 months, passing it and going to med school there. SGU has a similar program. Yes, it takes and extra 3 months and yes it costs $12,000 more in tuition, but the option of working in all 50 states makes it worth your time.

As an aside, heresay has it that if you ask for MERP or the SGU program you are nearly (almost) guaranteed a spot.

Also, in reference to your last question, the more graduates a school has pumped out over the years, the better your chances of landing a residency through networking alumni and being recognized as being from one of the better Carib schools.

Both Ross' MERP and SGU's FOM (foundations of medicine) program are offered to people who show the desire and potential for succeeding in medical school, but lack the background or recent school work associated with doing well in the first semester.

I believe that the SGU FOM program is something you can ask for but MERP is ofered after an interview.

No matter which one you complete, it is required that you pass with a high predetermined GPA in order to continue to medical school.

Ok so does that mean that is going to AUA versus Ross of SGU I have less chances of working in many different states?

AUA has access to about 40-45 states for licensing. I am not sure of the extact number, but you will not be able to work in California or any state that goes by California's list.
