Generic Personal Statment OK?

Is it OK to write your personal statement on a life experience, rather than "why I want to be a surgeon/pediatrician/radiologist...."? I mean, isn't that what you'll be discussing during the interview?

To be safe, my last paragraph briefly explains why I chose the field (not related to experience discussed), but not in super detail.

Any comments?
