Generic plavix

Yay we have generic Plavix...again!

We still have clopidogrel priced at $175 for a 30 day supply😳

I wonder how quickly it will go down. Anyone know how many companies are making it?

Isn't it generally given to one company to produce for roughly 6 months. After that 6 month period the price falls quite a bit when more companies are allowed to produce and distribute. This is what I've heard and seen.

Yup 👍

I don't think Plavix has the 6 month exclusivity based on what happened back in 05' with the Apotex launch.

That's the ticket. Apotex forfeited their exclusivity deal by illegally launching 7 years too soon. I know Mylan, Sun, Apotex, and Dr. Reddy's have all received approval to market. I think the price drop will be enormous and rapid.

Going to save a lot of people an awful lot of money.

Interesting, I had not heard of this.

Not sure of how many generic companies are approved, but only Dr. Reddys brand is available through our wholesaler. Just ordered couple of 90 count at $12 per. A ~98% drop in cost overnight, Lol.

What I remember the most about the first attempt at genericification were the hilarious attempts by patients at pronouncing "clopidogrel."

I need my "Clop-eh-dog-ruhl."

Also, any idea at which manufacturer will be the rebranded brand? If any?

To clarify after searching! Looks like FDA approved multiple companies to make for this generic.

Generic Plavix: If you take the blood thinning drug Plavix, the cost of your medicine just dropped dramatically, from about $200 to $40 or less each month. That's because the Food and Drug Administration just approved multiple generic versions of the medication used by millions to prevent heart attack and stroke. The companies that jointly market the brand-name drug will try to keep customers loyal with discount coupons slashing the price to no more than $37 a month, the Associated Press reports. Walmart and Sam's Club will start selling the generic versions Saturday, for about $40 a month or a $10 co-pay with insurance. - USA TODAY
