I head about this masters program at Cal State Northridge titled Genetic counseling. I have heard about this new career that is emerging. I was wondering if anyone actually has a degree in this profession or knows something about it. Is there a hot demand for this profession.

thank you

Genetic counseling is not all that new. Genetic counselors work closely with patients who have genetic disorders or who are at risk for inherited conditions. Not only do they analyze and interpret inheritance patterns, but they also take on a strong supportive role, which is why many gentic counseling programs require an applicant to have a minimum of 1 year counseling experience prior to applying.

As part of an internship I had a few years back, I had to contact genetic counselors across the US who specialized in breast cancer. So there is definitely a demand across the board depending on the specialty.
