For those who have taken the DAT or are about to take the DAT, how much genetics is found on the test? Would you say it's all right to take the DAT without taking your general genetics bio course?

Thanks for you help!

I probably had 5 questions on genetics (population genetics, codominance, hardy weinberg equilibrium and some others). I dont think its necessary to have a genetics course as long as you hit the genetics in kaplan. Hope this helps.

So do you think it would be safe to say that I would have to take the genetics course before I took the DAT?

Or would my general introduction to evolutionary biology class be enough?

From what I've read it's more of a hit and miss with the biology section of the DAT. One test could have 5 genetics questions and the next might have 1. I'm sure that if you understand the basics of genetics then you will be fine.

I had 3-4 genetics questions and I haven't taken a genetics course. I don't think you'll have a problem as long as you understand what is going on from the Kaplan blue book. I had a hardy-weinberg question that I swear was identical to the example in the kaplan book, also I had a couple of questions where you had to do a punnet square and tell them what the offspring would be like. Pretty simple stuff. Just make sure you are careful and see what generation they're asking about. I wouldn't stress over it as long as you understand everything from that chapter in the blue book.
