Georgetown or BU SMP

I'm just curious what are the major differences between the SMP programs at Georgetown and BU. They both seem to have a highly successful rate of gradutes who get into med school, but georgetown seems to be more highly regarded. Can anyone give me the pros and cons of each program?

This probably thread should be moved to the Post-Bac forum. In any case, Georgetown is a decent program but the only reason its well regarded is because of thename Georgetown. The GU SMP is not that impressive. Only around 50% of the students get in medical school while they're in the masters program. Then again, you will learn a lot and a lot students who don't get in med school that first year, eventually do. 🙁

I think in BU you do get to pick some of your courses, whereas Georgetown has a set schedule that everyone follows. Also BU program ostensibily takes two years to finish, although I have heard of people who finish it in one. My impression (could be false) is that BU also seems to be more flexible in the GPA and MCAT required for admission. But other than that, they are pretty similar.

Finishing at BU can take 1 or 2 years which ever YOU CHOOSE. Really it makes sense because if you don't get in to med school during the first year of the program, you can do the lab thesis while you apply again. Many students in any SMP need the program grades on their AMCAS to be competitive for admissions. The research thesis gives you something beneficial to do during that next year if you need it.
