Hi all,

GU thoughts: large class, more independent-learning based, less team-based from what I've gathered; end of block exams, which I think is a positive; big city location, diverse patient population; more hospital affiliates;

UVA thoughts: I am not excited about Charlottesville as I went there for undergrad and post bac. I am fond of the program and the collaborative class nature; also they're heavy on team-based learning, which I think would be beneficial; less hospital affiliates; new INOVA residency, which I placed into and like - very diverse patient population, great exposure.

WF: seemingly collaborative class and faculty; more diverse faculty; small city/college town vibe; not too excited about Winston-Salem or the South;

I'm wondering which school could help me land a residency in CA; I'm also hoping to go to a school where I can succeed and be well-supported by faculty. I do have a big preference for being in a city, which is why I'm gravitating more toward GU; UVA draws me for its great program, facilities, and research ranking.

I appreciate any and all opinions!

Do any of the schools have clinical sites in CA? That would be one aspect that could help so you don't have to worry about trying apply for a CA clinical placement at some point. Otherwise if you're really committed to residency in CA I'm sure you could succeed in any of the programs and have a great shot at CA. Check match lists too and compare that could help. Seems like you're leaning against Wake, in which case i'd go GU since it seems to match what you're looking for

“Independent learning based” is an understatement from my understanding and conversations with graduates. Their main gripe was the sink or swim/you’re on your own mentality at the school. It may work for some but cohesiveness of the class may not be there if that’s something important to you.
