Would someone be able to clarify which part of skin is formed from which germ layer?

From what I read, epidermis is from ectoderm and dermis is from mesoderm. I also read that sebaceous glands are from the ectoderm, but aren't sebaceous glands in the dermis..? And technically I though tall connective tissue were mesoderm...is skin not considered connective tissue? Am I just completely wrong on everything?

Ectoderm --> epidermis, mesoderm --> dermis

Connective tissue is mostly derived from the mesoderm. But of the 4 main tissue types (connective, epithelial, nervous, muscle) we associate the skin with the epithelial (connective is more like bone, cartilage, blood, adipose tissue). I wouldn't really try to work those concepts together because even then it can be kind of confusing: e.g. the ectoderm gives rise to the epithelium of the skin, but the endoderm gives rise to the epithelial lining of the digestive tract. Both are epithelial tissue, but come from different embryonic layers. So it's not really as simple as associating the embryonic layers with the tissue types.

I wouldn't worry about the embryonic origin of the sebaceous glands. That's probably beyond the scope of even the most random questions of the DAT.

Epidermis comes from the ectoderm and the dermis comes from the mesoderm. Sebaceous glands come from ectoderm.
