does anyone know if the german Dr.med. is equal to a MD , PHD , MD with research honours or a MS-degree ?

I guess it's the same as in Denmark (where I live). Here it's a degree You can get after earning a Ph.D. degree. It's equal to doing post-doc work in an American laboratory.
Hope this was helpful!

Think of it as an MD with a thesis. The medical schools in the former East Germany (Leipzig, Rostock, etc) used to (and still might) grant a diploma in medicine, without a thesis.

you can obtain the Dr. Med title in Scandinavian countries by publishing 5 articles progressively elucidating a larger problem.

Phd standard if a little different internationally, with US having the most lengthy and thorough education span over 5 and more years, doing multiple lab rotations. In Scandinavia it’s usually 3 years with 3 – 5 pubs in the same field.

Dr. med is worth more than phd for some odd reason over here.

Dr. med in Germany is a very low title, comprises a year or two of lab work if I were correct. My PI who happens to be a Dr. med from denmark often frequent germany and she occasionally gets this remark of “I’m quite surprised that someone with your credential is ONLY a dr. med”.
